What Opportunities and/or Disadvantages do New and Digital Media have for Audiences

New and digital media has given out a good amount of advantages and disadvantages for the audience. In the past few years society has been affected by this a massive amount. I'm going to focus my answer on the film industry, i'm going to write about how it's impacted them and what sort of opportunities it has given them. Firstly the film industry allows the audience to view films from a wide range of media platforms, such as Television, online (Illegally & Legally), cinema's, and through smart phone technolgy and apple devices such as ipods, iphones and ipod touches. Firstly cinema's have a new way of displaying films which is popular with people today, this is films in 3d, it offers the audience a whole new experiance on films today. A modern example of a 3D film is silent hill revalation 3D. Secondly television this is an advantages because it allows the audience to view films from the comfort of their own home, an example of this would be the film Superbad. It was released on DVD on the 4th December 2007, and since then it's sold around 7,139,444 sales. So by watching it at home, it saves the audience say going out to the cinema to watch this film. Another example is the audience get to voice their own opinoin, my example for this is the Superbad trailer on YouTube, after or before watching the trailer it'll allow you to comment with your thoughts on the trailer. This can be an advantage or a disadavantage because it allows internet 'trolls' to do what they do best. But it's also an advantage because it means the user can express their opinoin giving them freedom of speech. Modern technolgy today also allows you to watch films online legally and illegally, a popular legal website called 'Netflix' is used by a wide range of people simply because of it's wide range of film choices. The service is £6 a month and pretty much allows you to watch any film. An illegal example is a website called 'Letmewatchthis'. Letmewatchthis allows the user to watch any film without paying. Even films which are just out, these films are sometimes terrible quality simply because they've been filmed in a cinema by a standard camcorder. This is also highly illegel and a disadvantage towards the film industry. It means people view their films illegally, resulting on them losing sales. So overall the new digital media has some advantages but also disadvantages which could cost them heavily.
