Do you believe there should be more social control over the media

  • Comments on video hosting websites should be monitered, for example YouTube and Vimeo. Offesensive comments should be removed.
  • People can claim that their comments are simply freedom of speech, everyone has a right to think how they like.
  • I believe websites such as Reddit should moniter the files posted on their website, items which are unacceptable for the website should be removed. For example a man called Michael Brutsch, he was accused of posting sexualised images of underage girls and graphic images on Reddit. I believe this should have been monitered by the owners of the website, and it also should have been removed and the user should have been banned. This will prevent Micael Brutsch doing this in future times.
  • I believe the exposing the 'Troll' to the public is a good idea, by doing this they'll recieve critisim for their actions, maybe even abuse from other users. But overall it's giving them a taste of their own actions.
  • People expressing their opinions over the internet is just another example of freedom of speech. But sometimes people abuse this freedom and write the wrong things, a perfect example of this would be the incident when Azhar Ahmed posted his views on British soliders, Azhar wrote 'All soliders should die and go to hell' he was sentance to community order and a £300 fine. Somepeople would see this as un-fair, as he was only voicing his opinion. But i believe there should be a limit to what people can say over the internet, or they should re-word what they say to make it come across in a less offensive manor. For example he could have said something along the lines of 'I don't believe in what British soliders are doing' this is voicing his own opinon in a less offensive manor. And the chances are he wouldn't have faced community order and the £300 fine.
  • Online abuse happens all the time, to everyone. I've noticed that the abuse only really gets noticed when the person getting abused is famous, or the person getting abused takes drastic actions e.g. suicide. An example of this would be when somebody sent abuse to olympic diver Tom Daley over Twitter. The police investigate the abuse, but the chargers were eventually dropped. The abuse to Amanda Todd was only picked up went she commited suicide, this was when it went world wide. So i believe website should moniter what's been said on most websites, but not every feature on the websites. Because this would be invading peoples privacy. For example Facebook should moniter what's been said publicly but not over inbox. This should be the same with Twitter, MySpace, YouTube, Vimeo and many more.
  • I believe online chat websites such as 'Chat roulette' should be monitered at all times, or even taken down. simply because you could be talking to anyone. As quoted on the Fox news artical 'One minute you're chatting via webcam to a mom of two from montuak, the next you're staring at a stark-naked man from bangkok. They say chatrouletter is a 'Predators paradise'. This website is raising alarms for the child protection advocates.
  • I believe all comments left on YouTube videos should be first monitered by the YouTube owners before posting. This way offensive comments won't be posted.
