Do you believe that Media insitutions should be allowed to gain information through any means possible in order to create news?

- This may cause situations to mess up, for example the hacking of Milly dowler's phone it was hacked via the media, which caused the parents and the police to believe she was still alive, as the messages were being deleted. This turned out to be the Media deleting the messages. So it caused a situation to get a lot worse than it already was. So in this case, i believe the Media shouldn't have the freedom to invade peoples privacy, as it caused emotional pain throughout members of her family.

- Invasion of peoples privacy, this shouldn't be allowed. And the data certainly shouldn't be shared amongst others without the persons permission. This also refers back to the phone hacking scandle, in which celebrities phones were hacked and information was reveled about them. This isn't acceptable, firstly they probably didn't want this information revealed. And secondly this information could have put them in harms way.

- An example of a good reason why the media should be allowed, was from the riots last year. They were allowed to hack a phone service called Blackberry messenger, this was how people contacted each other to organise riots. Blackberry messenger played a key role in the starting of these riots, hence why Blackberry messenger was shut down for weeks. Other social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter were also monitered by the Media and police to find out the location of the riots. Messages such as 'Everyone from all sides of London meet up at the heart of London (central) OXFORD CIRCUS!!, Bare SHOPS are gonna get smashed up so come get some (free stuff!!!) f**k the feds we will send them back with OUR riot! >:O Dead the ends and colour war for now so if you see a brother... SALUT! if you see a fed... SHOOT!" were sent via blackberry messenger. So the media were able to access this information and share it with the police etc. It also allowed them to get the best possible new stories from the riots.
