Friday 5th October work.

1. Do you believe that the media creates an unfair representation of the working class?

I believe the media does create an unfair representation of the working class, the first example i'm going to talk about is the shameless trailer. Shameless is an award winning TV program set in a Manchester council estate. When watching the trailer, the first thing that you notice is how run down the area is, this creates a representation that most working class people live in run down areas, which is being boarded up. When there's a close up camera shot of the table, it shows several items, such as a couple of empty beer cans, and rubbish all over the plates. This also gives a representation that the working class are messy alcoholics. Then it's closely followed by more beer cans, accept being pushed around in a wheel chair. Also increasing the representation that the working class are alcoholics. Then the next thing which increases the unfair representation is when the camera shows the main character, he's shown as a long hair unwashed drunk. Then lastly just as the advert comes to an end, you see the character throwing litter on the floor. This gives the impression that the working class litter and don't look after the environment. So this 40 second trailer alone gives a unfair representation in such a short time.
